For Miss Johnson, her teaching career has been an excellent ride and it all started with a familiar bad one.
Surprisingly, when Miss Johnson was really young she wanted to be a bus driver when she got older. It only took one really loud ride on the school bus to change her mind.
Later on that year, a few seniors came into her class to teach Spanish and that event inspired her to become a teacher. After high school, Miss Johnson went to college at Cambridge College. She was hired to teach at Wareham Public Schools and has been teaching here for 30 years.
Miss Johnson has been teaching math for a long time and it is her favorite subject. She says her favorite part of her job is seeing her students.
When she was asked where she sees herself in ten years, she said she probably won’t be still working here, but she will be doing charity work for her church and her town.
We are thankful for Miss Johnson for working here in Wareham for so long and for getting hundreds of kids of Wareham prepared for their own rides.

MRS. kais
One Adventure Ending A New One Beginning
By Kaidyn Murphy
After teaching for thirty-three years, Dori Kais, Wareham teacher, is retiring. Teaching in Wareham for over three decades has been the adventure of a lifetime, but Mrs. Kais is excited about experiencing fun, new adventures in retirement.
Mrs. Kais’ adventure in education began when she was a student just like us. She said, ”It was hard to learn math when I was young.” She also said reading was her favorite subject. Mrs. Kais said, “I loved being in school. Gym and recess were my favorite activities in school.” Mrs Kais also shared that her family played football when they were kids. Mrs Kais loved having her family around her when she was little. Mrs Kais has 10 siblings! She was the 9th child from 11. She said, “All of my siblings including me start with the letter
'D'!"
She went to Bourne High. She said college prepared her for teaching and how to deliver instructions to the class. Right after graduation, she started teaching when she was only twenty two years old. Mrs Kais said that she got the inspiration to be a teacher from her sister and her dad, who was a principal.
Mrs. Kais says, “The best thing about teaching my classes is the gratification of knowing I made an impact and difference in so many kiddo’s and their families' lives.” She says she loves her colleagues and so many of them are near and dear to her. She says the most important thing about her job is making sure every child is getting what they need and more. She said her favorite grade to teach is 1st grade. She says she is never switching from 1st to any other grade. She said she has been working in Wareham for 33 years as a teacher, which beats her sister, Dona (who also worked in Wareham) by one year!
After 33 years, Mrs. Kais said she is retiring in June 2024. She said when she retires she would go to Iceland to see the northern lights and she also will spend some time with her two kids, Madison and Nicholas. Now her adventure ends and a new one begins! So if you find yourself in Iceland and bump into a wonderful, smiling, happy former teacher, say “Hi!” to my first grade teacher for me!

MS. pires
A great person, and an even greater teacher!
By Lauren L’Heureux
Ms. Pires is an amazing kindergarten teacher here at W.E.S. She has worked as a teacher for twenty five years, but she has only worked at W.E.S for six years! “My favorite part of teaching is the rewarding feeling of teaching kids to read!” said Pires.
She also has a big family, full of aunts, uncles, a husband, and two daughters. Ms. Pires grew-up in New Bedford, but her favorite place to go is Florida. “I love teaching in the twenty-first century,” said Pires, “but the expectations are higher than when I just began teaching.”
As a young girl she enjoyed school, and did a little teaching of her own. “I remember babysitting as a young girl, and enjoying teaching and caring for children,” said Pires. Those kids inspired her to teach.

Mrs. Woodside said, “What inspired me to work here is that I love meeting and working with new kids. It's amazing working here at W.E.S.” This wonderful teacher started substituting about 2 years ago.
If Mrs. Kristen had $1million, she would buy a lot of houses and islands. The top place she would travel to is Europe. Mrs. Woodside has 1 dog and 1 cat.
Mrs. Woodside has been living in Wareham for ten years. She sees herself traveling to a lot of places, countries and states in 10 years.
