Cheerleaders Reach For the Top At Reach the BeachBy Janyea Alves
In February, the WTCA competed in ACDA Reach the Beach competition, a national cheerleading competition in Ocean City, Maryland. WTCA stands for Wareham Tigers Cheer Athletics and sent two teams to the competition. The Pride squad is the 18U team and the Spirit team is made up of Middle School students and students from Wareham Elementary School.
After the 7+ hour road trip, everyone settled into the hotel. Then the team got to hang out at the pool and get together as a team. Saturday both teams got to experience the boardwalk. Then the Pride squad got ready for the competition. After that, the Spirit team had to get ready to watch Pride perform in their first routine. There were lots of people. Then the Pride squad went on the stage and they did awesome. Soon after, it was time for the Spirit squad to get ready for their competition. Backstage, the coaches (may have) bribed the team. They made a deal that if they “HIT ZERO”, which means the team received zero deductions on their routine, they would have an ice cream party in the hallway. After an excellent performance, the girls were up to their elbows in ice cream and smiles. On Sunday, both teams had to perform again. There was a lot of excitement and some nervous cheerleaders, but they pulled through and performed great. Pride got 2nd place and Spirit got 5th place, thanks to another “HIT ZERO”. The organization is run by Damon Solomon and we are lucky to have lots of great coaches too. |
